As a web designer, one thing you want to do is appeal to the audience. Several local websites in the news industry lack diversity from one another making them plain and simple. In this specific blog post, Fox 29 News shows that they could improve the layout of their web page with a few changes to their site. The main focuses are in contrast and proximity.
For starters, the contrast on the page is a bit bland. Other than the Fox 29 News logo, the rest of the header is grey with a surrounding color of white. These two colors are two of the most basic colors one can have. There is little to no appeal to dive into the news on the page with these colors present. People enjoy contrast; it draws them into the information on the page. From there, more and more viewers would read the articles which would most likely result in a ratings increase for Fox.
In addition to contrast, the website could be improved with its proximity in the header. The tabs are far too close together, leaving a huge space in-between the weather icon in the corner of their screen and the sports tab, which is furthest to the right. Too much empty space along with words too close together is a very bad combination for a website to have. Proximity issues can become overwhelming for viewers causing some to exit out of the page. In this case, the reader may leave the sight and go to a competitor’s website such as 6 ABC or NBC 10.
